Where does Roadtrain operate?

We operate throughout the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain via our Liverpool depot. Through our wider freight and groupage network, we can also facilitate European and international movements. Our locations in Dublin, Cavan and Liverpool enable us to efficiently cover key logistics routes across Ireland, the UK and further afield.

Does Roadtrain provide account management for larger clients?

Distribution & haulage

What transport and distribution services does Roadtrain provide?

All movements are managed through our transport management system and tracked in real time.

What areas does your distribution network cover?

Our network covers the full island of Ireland and Great Britain. Irish operations are managed from our Dublin and Cavan depots, while UK operations are supported through Liverpool. We operate daily services across major routes including Dublin–Belfast, Dublin–Cork, Dublin–Limerick and Ireland–UK cross-channel movements.

Can Roadtrain handle abnormal or oversized loads?

Yes. We operate extendable flatbed trailers capable of transporting abnormal and oversized consignments. We also manage route surveys, permits and movement orders for both Irish and UK movements. This service is widely used by clients in the construction, engineering and energy sectors.

Does Roadtrain transport hazardous goods?

Yes. Roadtrain is fully licensed for ADR hazardous goods transport across Ireland and the UK. Our drivers hold current ADR certification and our fleet is equipped in line with all regulatory requirements. We can also manage the associated customs procedures for cross-border hazardous cargo.

What type of fleet does Roadtrain operate?

Our fleet includes articulated vehicles, curtainsiders, rigid trucks, flatbeds, extendable trailers and Moffett-mounted forklift vehicles. All vehicles are Euro 6 compliant, satellite tracked and regularly renewed to maintain operational reliability and emissions compliance.

Does Roadtrain offer Moffett deliveries?

Yes. Our Moffett-equipped vehicles allow deliveries to sites without the need for on-site unloading equipment. This is particularly useful for construction projects, industrial premises and remote delivery locations throughout Ireland and the UK.

How do clients access proof of delivery documentation?

All POD documentation is available through our online portal, allowing clients to view and download documents whenever required. Where electronic POD is unavailable for specific movements, paper documentation is retained and available upon request.

Can Roadtrain manage time-critical deliveries?

Yes. Our operations team uses live vehicle tracking and direct communication with drivers to manage urgent, time-sensitive movements effectively. For clients operating just-in-time supply chains, we can discuss dedicated scheduling and priority service arrangements.

Groupage & international freight

What is groupage?

Groupage, also known as part-load or LTL freight, combines consignments from multiple customers into one vehicle or container. It provides a more cost-effective option for shipments that do not require a full trailer. Roadtrain offers groupage services across Ireland, the UK, Europe and international destinations through our freight network.

Does Roadtrain offer international freight services?

Yes. We facilitate international freight movements including groupage, part-loads and air freight services through our established partner network. Our in-house customs team supports the documentation requirements for international shipments.

Can clients use both full load and groupage services?

Yes. Many clients use a combination of services depending on shipment volumes and operational requirements at any given time. Our team can advise on the most practical and cost-effective option for each movement.

Customs clearance

Does Roadtrain provide customs clearance services?

Yes. Our in-house customs team manages customs clearance for both Irish Revenue and HMRC. Because transport and customs are managed under one roof, clients benefit from a single point of contact and reduced administration throughout the process.

What does it mean to appoint Roadtrain as a Direct Representative?

Direct Representation allows Roadtrain to submit customs declarations on your behalf with Irish Revenue or HMRC. This is the standard arrangement for businesses that want an experienced customs agent to manage declarations accurately and efficiently while maintaining full compliance.

How do we appoint Roadtrain as our customs agent?

Clients simply complete the relevant Direct Representation forms for Irish or UK Customs and provide the required commercial documentation, including invoice values, incoterms, weights and commodity codes. Once authorised, our customs team manages the process from collection through to delivery.

Does my business need an EORI number?

Yes. Businesses trading between Ireland and the UK require an EORI number. Irish businesses typically require both an IE EORI and a GB EORI for UK-side customs procedures. Our customs team can advise on the registration process where required.

What documents are required for customs clearance?

Standard requirements include a commercial invoice with values, incoterms, origin details, gross and net weights and HS commodity codes. Depending on the shipment type, additional documentation may also be required. Our customs team will advise accordingly.

Can Roadtrain handle customs for hazardous or specialist cargo?

Yes. We regularly manage customs procedures for hazardous materials, pharmaceutical products, oversized equipment and other specialist consignments that require additional compliance measures or documentation.

What is the Windsor Framework?

The Windsor Framework governs certain goods movements between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Our customs team remains fully up to date with current procedures, including Green Lane and Red Lane requirements and can advise clients on the correct process for their movements.
